Cloke made no mistake from 25m out directly in front for his third goal of the night. He kicked two in a quick succession against the Western Bulldogs.
Essendon recruit Brendon Goddard looked like steering his team to victory midway through the term when the utility converted from the pocket.
Goddard was dangerous inside the arc marking moments later but hit the post with his second attempt on goal.
From there it was all Collingwood led by ball magnets Dayne Beams and Scott Pendlebury who turned a 12-point deficit into an two-point victory.
