WHILE North Melbourne fans are having sweet dreams about Majak Daw, Roos defender Scott Thompson is having nightmares about Lance Franklin.
Those two worlds could collide on Sunday with Daw likely to be fit to take on Hawthorn at Etihad Stadium and Thompson pondering how to stop Buddy.
Knocked out on Sunday after a spectacular first 20 minutes of AFL footy that seems to grow in stature by the hour, Daw joined teammates at a recovery session at Arden St yesterday and was in good spirits.
Thompson, who had front-row seats to one of last year's great footy showpieces - Franklin's 13 goals against the Roos in Launceston, said he was also looking forward to seeing Daw in action for a second time.
"It was a fairytale start, I think," Thompson said. "A great grab and a great goal with his first kick in AFL. It's exciting for his future. He's a great athlete and I can't wait to see him play more footy.
"He's joking around and all the boys are getting around him. He looks good and I think the club will give him every chance to play again this week."
Seemingly over the effects of concussion that forced him to be substituted at quarter-time against the Brisbane Lions, Daw's selection prospects this week may hinge on Robbie Tarrant's fitness after the forward missed the weekend's game with a leg injury.
If Daw does play, Thompson said his teammates would have no hesitation in bombing it long to him in the forward line such was the brief moment of marking prowess he showed against the Lions.
"His athletic ability is impressive," Thompson said.
"One on one he's a hard player to play against, so we've got full confidence in him that he can do his role and take those big marks."
Thompson said he feels as if he has a point to prove on Sunday.
"I have sleepless nights," Thompson said of the prospect of lining up on Franklin.
"It's a challenge, but I love taking on a challenge.
"We don't like looking back on that game actually when he kicked 13 goals.
"Obviously he's a gun, probably the best player in the AFL. Hopefully he doesn't do that again."
North Melbourne say Majak Daw should be right to play next week after suffering a head knock in the Kangaroos' game with Brisbane Lions.
