NORTH Melbourne coach Brad Scott has praised his side's killer instinct after the Kangaroos steamrolled Brisbane Lions for their first win of the season.

The Roos had slipped to a 0-3 start to the year, with second half fadeouts costing them in losses to Collingwood (16 points), Geelong (four) and Sydney (39).

But with the Lions at their mercy at Etihad Stadium yesterday, the Kangaroos went for the jugular with a 10 goal to five second half to run out 63-point winners.

Scott was satisfied with what he declared the club's first four-quarter effort.

"I was really pleased with the overall performance and the way we kept pressing on when things were going well for us," Scott said.

"We were able to continue on this week, which was good. But the review from the Sydney game just highlighted a broad range of fundamental errors ... we had a lot less of those tonight.

"At half time we really focused on making sure that our organisation was really good. It was never in any doubt as to our attack on the footy and ability in the contest, it was more just staying organsied and not getting confused like we did last week in the third quarter.

"I feel bad after every loss whether it's one in a row or four in a row. We just had to stay in the moment and stay in the present and not worry about those things.

"As I've said in previous weeks, 80-90 per cent has been really good and today 90-95 per cent was really good."

North Melbourne and Brisbane split the clearances, but the Roos' speed and spread was relentless.

They overwheled the hapless Lions with 60 more disposals, 19 more handball receives and 18 more inside 50s.

"I suppose what gives us confidence is our best is up there and it can compete for periods of games with the top-four sides," Scott said.

"I think we've played arguably three of the premiership favourites in the first month and we've got the fourth (Hawthorn) coming up next week. We continue to get really solid tests put in front of us"

Scott paid tribute to Majak Daw, who set the game alight before being concussed and subbed out before quarter-time.

"I did probably go up with the rest of the crowd and half our box when he took the first mark," he said.

"But a first-game player and particularly one as hyped as Majak is, the risk is they go in and get confused and the moment gets to them.

"Majak, in his short time on the ground, didn't put a foot wrong."
