BRISBANE defender Daniel Merrett best summarised the mood at the Gabba after Adelaide superstar Patrick Dangerfield condemned the Lions to their second-straight loss of 2013 last night.

"We redeemed ourselves a little bit but it sucks not to get the four points," Merrett said after the Crows inflicted a 19-point loss on the Lions.

Brisbane were brave and bold and vastly improved from the 68-point thrashing at the hands of the Western Bulldogs last week.

But the bottom line remains that the Lions are winless after two rounds and face an ever-improving Gold Coast in the QClash at Metricon Satdium this Saturday.

The Lions had one more scoring shot than the Crows but paid the price for a lack of polish in front of goals.
Brisbane led by nine points early in the last quarter until Dangerfield injected himself into the contest and ripped the game out of the home side's grasp.

Dangerfield kicked two critical - and brilliant - goals in the final quarter to lift the Crows to victory after a hard-fought, see-sawing affair was played out in difficult conditions with the sides going goal-for-goal for much of the rainy game.

The Crows midfielder finished with 23 disposals, 15 contested possessions, eight clearances and five tackles to be best-on-ground ahead of Irishman Pearce Hanley who was outstanding for Brisbane with 30 disposals.

Despite owning a 0-2 record, Lions coach Michael Voss was bullish about his side's effort and Brisbane's prospects in the local derby.

"I feel like we've actually just started. While we've got things to work on, we should take confidence away from that, that we've started to make some ground," Voss said.

"We've stacked up against a pretty good side ... their better players, at the right time, really stood up.

"We've got to make sure we continue to build on what we've actually seen today.

"Are we happy? Absolutely not. But we've made some progress in terms of where we were at this time last week.
It could have threatened our season because it was such a really bad performance."

Merrett - who kept Crows spearhead Taylor Walker to two goals - said the Lions players made a pact not to repeat the effort from the Bulldogs loss which left the group "bitterly disappointed".

"It is heartening to think we were close tonight," he said.

Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson said it was a relief to post the club's first win after a disappointing loss to Essendon two weeks ago and joked that the South Australian capital "could have melted down" if the Crows lost.

"Fifteen days is a long time to wait for an improvement in performance. You can sometimes have too many meetings and you can sometimes push the panic button a bit too early," he said.

"Tonight our boys came up and played really well as a team. To be eight points down at three-quarter time and find a way to win was important."
