BRISBANE will go into the Q Clash under pressure from a 0-2 start.

But they need not go in without confidence.

The season that promised so much is not lost.

They were beaten by a better side yesterday - a side that played a preliminary final last year and is expected to again feature in September.

Adelaide's 19-point win in wet conditions was built on the back of their core strengths of contested possessions and clearances where they had the upper hand. But it was sealed by a touch more class.

The Lions were disappointed to lose, but they did a lot right.

Some of their key players, such as Pearce Hanley and Daniel Merrett, were good. Comeback kid Matthew Leuenberger's first game in a year was also encouraging.

Compared to last week when they were embarrassed by the Bulldogs, they were an entirely different side.

Their attack on the footy was great and so was their pressure.

This was an Adelaide side that had supposedly hired a former All Black to help them tackle. Yet the Lions topped the tackle count, although the Crows did have more of the ball.

In the end it was decided by two final quarter goals from Patrick Dangerfield. The ball was wet and heavy, as were Dangerfield's legs after an all-day tag from Andrew Raines.

Yet he produced two pieces of utter class when his side needed it most. In a five-minute final quarter burst, the the classy midfielder hammered through a running 50m effort on the left and a right foot snap to sink the hosts.

If Dangerfield was not the difference between the two sides, the Lions' lack of a Dangerfield type was. A player who could rise above the conditions and the state of the game and put his stamp on it.

The Lions will rue wasted opportunities in a dominant third quarter where they controlled the ball, had the better of the inside-50 count and had 12 scoring shots to seven but could only outscore the Crows by 15 points.

It gave them an eight-point lead at the final change, their most significant of the game, but it was not enough.
