COLLINGWOOD has abandoned an investigation into racial abuse alleged to have being directed at a Carlton player by two of its supporters.
The Pies launched the probe during the week after allegations the fans racially abused Carlton's Chris Yarran during last Sunday's MCG blockbuster.
No footage was found of the alleged incidents, but the Pies admitted one or more individuals had used language during the game that racially vilified the Blues player and offended members of the crowd.
Collingwood warned members they faced life bans if found guilty of such offences.
But the club called off the investigation, claiming it had been unable to "get a consistent summary of the incident to clearly identify a culprit that the club could hold to account".
Collingwood chief executive Gary Pert said the club had a zero-tolerance approach towards anyone who racially vilified a player, official or patron.
"We would encourage any stadium patron to send through the specific seat details of anyone they believe has been guilty of such offensive behaviour," he said.
"It is the seat details that allows the stadium and the club to accurately prosecute any such incidents."
The club had spoken to members sitting in the immediate vicinity of the alleged incidents.
